Amar Asom (Assamese: আমাৰ অসম) is the flagship daily newspaper in Assamese language published by GL Publications Ltd. GL Publications was established in 1988 in Guwahati by Mr. G. L. Agarwalla, a businessman and philanthropist.
Since its inception on 21st April, 1997, Amar Asom was able to establish itself as one of the most credible newspapers in Assam owing to its unbiased reporting. The daily is widely read by the intelligentsia and decision-makers and policy planners. The daily is simultaneously published from Guwahati, Jorhat and Lakhimpur. Its wide network of correspondents reaches out to every nook and cranny of the North Eastern region and portrays news and events in a realistic and humanistic approach.
Amar Asom is certified by the ABC and according to the certificate the latest circulation figure is 70,474. Four daily newspapers come out of this publication house reaching out a wide readership in the region. The three other dailies are Purvanchal Prahari (Hindi), established on 16th May, 1989, The Meghalaya Guardian, exclusive English daily for the state of Meghalaya, established on 1st January, 1990 and Times, another English daily for the entire region was launched on 2nd October, 1990.
